Veypor and VR2 kits specially designed for cars and Kart racing are now available.  The kits includes a suction cup mount and extended wiring harness at the same retail price as the motorcycle kits.  To purchase one, select the CAR option from the dropdown boxes on the purchase page or call 1-866-221-3638 to order by phone.

FEATURES

The Veypor and VR2 work perfectly on cars and provide dozens of performance analysis functions. In a car installation there are a few sensors whose installation is optional. Installing these sensors provides additional features, accuracy and functionality.

A. Installation Using Only Accelerometers

At it’s most basic, a Veypor/VR2 can be used exclusively in accelerometer mode. This requires only a power connection to the battery and takes only minutes to install. 12Volt power can even be supplied from a car-lighter adaptor.

This installation enables the following functions:

  • Auto ¼ Mile Timing
  • Staged ¼ Mile Timing
  • Auto 0-60 Timing
  • Horsepower plotting and data-logging
  • Distance plotting and data-logging
  • Velocity plotting and data-logging
  • G-Force plotting and data-logging

B. RPM Sensor

Installing the RPM sensor adds full tachometer functionality. This includes the shift light and Torque calculations. The RPM sensor installation consists of splicing a wire to the input of the vehicle ignition coil/distributor.

This installation enables the following additional functions on top of those in the Accelerometer only installation:

  • Gear indication (when the wheel speed sensor is installed)
  • RPM plotting and data-logging
  • Torque plotting and data-logging
  • Tachometer
  • Shift Light

C. Wheel Speed Sensor

The wheel speed sensor dramatically increases the accuracy of Veypor measurements over longer distances and adds full speedometer, odometer, lap timing and the speed light functions. The speed sensor requires that a small magnet be mounted to the wheel/rim/brake disc/counter shaft of the vehicle. The pickup at the end of the wiring harness is mounted somewhere on the vehicle or brake caliper so that the magnet passes within 0.8” during wheel rotations.

This installation enables the following additional functions on top of those in the above installations:

  • Speedometer
  • Permanent odometer
  • Reset-able trip-meter
  • Lap timer
  • Course timer
  • Speed light
  • Braking test
  • Improved accuracy in all timing modes
  • Gear Indicator (when the RPM sensor is installed)

INSTALLATION

There are 5 simple installation steps for a complete car installation.  Car installation is designed to be semi-permanent making it possible to remove the entire Veypor system without any change or damage to the vehicle. No drilling or cutting is required.

1. Suction Cup Mount

The R.A.M. suction cup mount secures tightly to any smooth, hard, surface and works best on a windshield.

Simply place the suction cup on the surface and twist the locking collar to firmly attach it. The suction cup will stay attached for months at a time.

2. Wire Harness Routing

The wire harness needs to be routed from the engine compartment, through the firewall and to the Veypor. This is usually a simple matter of threading the wiring harness through an existing grommet/hole in the firewall.  No holes need to be drilled.

3. Power Connection

With the Veypor wiring harness routed through the firewall, the power leads should be near the battery.

  • Connect the Black wire on the Wiring Harness to the negative(-) terminal of the battery, or any other ground.
  • Connect the Red wire on the Wiring Harness to the positive(+) terminal of the battery, or any other +12V source.

4. RPM Sensor

The RPM sensor connects to the input of the ignition coil or distributor of the car. The coil is found by tracing the spark plug wires back from the engine to the coil.

The coil usually has two or three wires connected from the engine control unit (ECU) to the input of the coil. One of the input wires to the coil (the wires coming from the ECU, not the spark plug wires) is the hot input, usually red or yellow.

Using the self-tapping wire splices (included), splice the white wire of the Veypor wiring harness to the hot wire input of the ignition coil.  Splicing to the wrong wire won’t harm the Veypor.

5. Wheel Rotation Sensor

The wheel rotation sensor is at the end of the wiring harness, sealed in black rubber.  This sensor is mounted on the vehicle or brake caliper so that a small magnet (included) mounted to the wheel passes within 0.8” (2 cm) of the sensor.

The best mounting option is to put the sensor on the brake caliper and the magnet on the wheel rim or brake rotor/disc. Use the included hardware to attach the magnet and the wheel sensor.
